Branched 4-nonylphenol, a colorless, viscous liquid alkylphenol and the most widely produced grade of nonylphenol. Its principal use is as a feedstock for nonionic ethoxylated surfactants and for phosphite antioxidants used in plastics and rubber; it also serves as a monomer for phenol-formaldehyde resins and as an intermediate for phenolic-oxime reagents used in copper ore extraction. Further downstream, it functions as a lubricant additive, an oilfield demulsifier and dispersant, a cement dispersant and concrete air-entraining agent, and a colorant carrier for rubber and plastics.
