Polymerization catalyst, not a coupling agent or crosslinker. The triphenylsilyl chromate ester is active on its own for ethylene polymerization and becomes markedly more active when supported on silica or silica-alumina, in the same family as the Phillips-type chromium catalysts used to make high-density polyethylene.
