Phenyl substitution raises the refractive index, thermal stability and glass transition of the resulting silicone resin, which is why these building blocks are used to make optically clear, high-temperature silicone systems. Difunctional, two phenyl groups and two methoxy groups — hydrolyzes faster than the diethoxy analogue, releasing methanol.
